Virtual Tour of MacMillan Hall
C.V. Starr Auditorium is a 300-seat lecture hall with in-house audio-visual capabilities. Every seat in the auditorium has a power outlet and fiber-optic connection to the University's computer network. |
Room 115 is a 108-seat classroom with in-house audio-visual capabilities and fiber-optic connections to the University's computer network. Weekly seminars are held here by the Geology Department, the Chemistry Department, and the Center for Environmental Studies. |
The Undergraduate Independent Study Laboratory houses lab and computer facilities, used mostly by science concentrators working on research projects or senior theses. |
The EARTH Lab is equipped with ten Dell Precision 650 Workstations served by a Dell PowerEdge 4600 server with approximately 350 Gigabytes of storage space. Output devices include an HP Designjet 755CM large format color plotter, as well as an HP Laserjet, and an HP Business Inkjet 2600 color printer. The Lab also has a Calcomp digitizing board, two Trimble GeoExplorer Global Positioning Sytem units, and two Dell Axim PDAs with ArcPad and Teletype World Navigator GPS units. For Remote Sensing analyses, software includes Research Systems' ENVI. For Geographic Information Systems, the EARTH Lab houses the complete line of products by Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI, Inc.), from Arcview 3.3 and all its extensions to ArcGIS version 9.1 (Desktop and Workstation). A University site license for the ESRI product line allows anyone on campus to access this software, either through the Lab, or by installation on computers within individual departments. Contact Lynn Carlson for information on obtaining installation media or to obtain access to the EARTH Lab. |
Classrooms, such as this one, are used for labs and small-sized classes primarily for the Geology and Environmental Studies programs. Classrooms contain in-house video equipment and fiber-optics connections to the University's computer network. |
The Environmental Chemistry Lab houses an Ion Chromatograph/HPLC system, a Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectrometer, a UV-Vis Spectrophotometer, Carbon Nitrogen Analyzer, and an ICP Emission Spectrometer. |
Chemistry Teaching Labs are used by students enrolled in chemistry courses. Each student in the lab has state-of-the-art workstations, which are individually ventilated and enclosed by safety glass. Side hookups for water, gas, vacuum, nitrogen and computer are available at each station. A vent runs only when a hood is in use, and, as a water conservation method, the vacuum system replaces the water aspirators found in typical laboratories. |
The Student Lounge offers a comfortable space for studying, eating, and socializing. |
