Professor Phadke's research and teaching is at the nexus of environmental studies, international development and science and technology studies.
Her interests lie in the democratization of science and technology decision-making and the hybridization of technical expertise and local knowledge. Her current research focuses on private and public development of water resources.
In addition to her water related work, she is developing new projects in the fields of wind energy and desalination.

Luce Environmental Fellows
The Luce Undergraduate Environmental Fellows Program provides opportunities for Brown undergraduate students to work on environmental research projects in developing countries in coordination with Watson Scholar program alumni. Each fellowship provides $4,000 for undergraduates and $5,000 for graduates to cover travel and expenses for summer research.

Environmental Education Internship in the Bahamas
Are you looking for a meaningful internship this summer? Teach Environmental Education and Swimming to local Bahamians and become a part of Swim to Empower, a non-profit organization founded by Dartmouth students.
This six-week program lasts from June 5th to July 17th, 2008 and is located in Eleuthera, an island in the Bahamas. There will also be an orientation meeting in Hanover, NH prior to going down to Eleuthera in early May.

The Junior Research Fellowship Program involves a 12-month commitment and candidates must be in their senior year of college or have graduated no earlier than 2007.

Rose Island Lighthouse sits in Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island, one mile off shore on an 18.5-acres island. It now operates it as a hands-on demonstration center and living classroom to teach stewardship, conservation and sustainable living.

Shorebird Preserve Assistant
Goosewing Beach, Little Compton, RI, and nearby sites
The Shorebird Preserve Assistant (SBPA) will assist in the management of Goosewing Beach Preserve and other nearby sites for the 2008 spring/summer season.
The SBPA works closely with the Shorebird Preserve Manager and other Conservancy staff. The position is full-time, short-term, (35 hours/week) and is paid hourly. It begins on April 14, 2008 and terminates August 29, 2008. The SBPA is supervised by the Conservancy’s Preserves Manager. Housing is not provided. Interviews will begin late March.

Toolik Lake Long Term Ecological Research (LTER), Alaska
Undergraduates or college graduates interested in ecological research in remote Alaska are invited to apply for paid positions and research fellowships for Summer 2008. The fellowships are for second and third-year undergraduates as part of the National Science Foundation's Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program.
The REU and research assistants will work closely with a group of scientists on projects from microbial ecology to the linkage of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems via the movement of carbon and nitrogen.
Dates: 5th June to 25th August 2008.
